Follows the lives of two characters Lysei, (an orphan selected by the overlords of the human population (The Keepers) to prevent humanity from self-destructing because of hyper-sexuality and all its consequences and Rikki (a famous musician who is one of proponents responsible for the destruction) as they come to terms of what is good and what is bad and what is going on in the world. The novel brings forth the idea that the human race has a momentum and that the momentum has qualities of a living organism ( i.e reproduction, favouritism etc.) which could be considered as god.
