51 Free Crime Fiction Ebooks, Web Serials and Web Novels
Crime fiction is the genre of fiction that deals with crimes, their detection, criminals, and their motives. Most – though not all – crime novels share a common structure. Crime fiction, detective story, murder mystery, mystery novel, and police novel are terms used to describe narratives that centre on criminal acts and especially on the investigation, either by an amateur or a professional detective, of a serious crime, generally a murder. Other common elements include a morally upright, intelligent and isolated protagonist who often has a personal interest in the case or a villain, often physically as well as metaphorically ugly and/or deformed. Unlike crime novels, mystery novels concern themselves less with a struggle between good and evil and more with the question of who committed a particular crime. While crime writers often reveal their villain early in the story, mystery writers devote most of their real estate to cracking unsolved cases.

Crime fiction is arguably one of the most popular genres of fiction today. Ranging from the classic detectives like Poirot and Sherlock Holmes to modern thrillers such as Stephen King’s Mr Mercedes, there seems to be something for everyone in the world of whodunits, detectives and legal dramas. Here’s a list of the best free crime fiction ebooks, web serials as well as web novels.
