Bridges for Honest Skeptics

Mathematician, physicist, inventor, and philosopher Blaise Pascal once noted that God provides enough evidence of himself for people who are open to it and enough obscurity for those who aren’t. But frequent misunderstandings, biases, and misrepresentations sometimes confuse even unclosed minds. This phone-friendly e-book, a labor of love by a scientist and former honest skeptic – a person who believes in, seeks, and wants to embrace truth – mitigates some of these distortions. EVIDENCE samples 41 accounts of God’s involvement in humanity, including three medically- attested events that demand to be considered miracles. THINKING FURTHER clarifies and corrects many misconceptions and misrepresentations. It also presents scientific and logical evidence and arguments that the existence and involvement of a transcendent God is rational and not trumped by science. ABOUT US presents arguments and evidence that behaviorally-modern humans aren’t just animals or ‘stuff’.

This retired physical-chemistry PhD and former honest skeptic has overcome his own doubt struggles with ENOUGH answers, however incomplete. I wrote this book out of a passion to help other honest skeptics – who don’t easily settle for shallow answers to hard questions – as well as folks with doubts further along the road to belief in a biblical God.

Fact and logic make clear that our world’s myriad and often contradictory belief systems, whether religious or secular, CANNOT all be true. Either all are false or one must be true or most true. Therefore, the marketplace of ideas that we routinely encounter confronts us with falsehoods and distortions of truth. The book presents evidence and arguments that counter some of these distortions and prospectively builds BRIDGES over some worldview traps and minefields.

I hardly promise anything close to comprehensiveness or perfection in this little-page, phone-friendly book and admit to yet having many unanswered questions. But what I’ve presented should minimally mitigate some misunderstandings and misrepresentations. Even if you dislike or disagree with some of the content, you’ll doubtless encounter helpful perspectives that you’ve not previously considered. And should you read only the EVIDENCE part and forego the more cerebral (and occasionally more technical) THINKING FURTHER and ABOUT US parts, you’ll doubtless still get more than your money’s worth :-).

The satisfaction of helping others is my only reward for writing this free e-book. Contrary to assertions that we’re purely the product of undirected, materialistic, mechanistic, purposeless processes, I argue that each of us has purpose and meaning. Writing this book is part of my purpose.
