19 Sites With Free Textbooks
This is a collection of free and open textbooks which by various parties and educational organizations from all over the world. Their objectives are plain and simple – to create an avenue and platform where all students can gain access to learning materials for free. Some learning materials have been curated and compiled from their own learning syllabus so do expect variety in the content. We thank to all those who are involved in such great effort in making education free and accessible to everyone.
- OpenStax CNX Library – The content in OpenStax CNX comes in two formats: modules, which are like small “knowledge chunks,” and collections, which are groups of modules structured into books or course notes, or for other uses. Their open license allows for free use and reuse of all their content.
- Lessons in Electric Circuits – A free series of textbooks on the subjects of electricity and electronics by Tony R. Kuphaldt
- MIT Open Courseware – MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) is a web-based publication of virtually all MIT course content. OCW is open and available to the world and is a permanent MIT activity.
- HK Open Textbook List – Covers primary, secondary and university textbooks as well as textbooks for certificates and diplomas.
- Springer OpenBooks – SpringerOpen publishes a wide selection of open access books across various disciplines including science, technology and medicine (STM) and within humanities and social sciences.
- DOAB – The primary aim of DOAB is to increase discoverability of Open Access books. Academic publishers are invited to provide metadata of their Open Access books to DOAB.
- BCcampus Open Textbooks – The goal of this project was to make higher education more accessible by reducing student cost through the use of openly licensed textbooks.
- Merlot – The MERLOT system provides access to curated online learning and support materials and content creation tools, led by an international community of educators, learners and researchers.
- OER Commons – OER Commons is a public digital library of open educational resources. Explore, create, and collaborate with educators around the world to improve curriculum.
- Open Textbook Library – These books have been reviewed by faculty from a variety of colleges and universities to assess their quality. These books can be downloaded for no cost, or printed at low cost.
- The Orange Grove – The collections are open to the public and include Open Courseware, Open Textbooks, 3d object models, learning modules, and videos.
- SUNY Open Textbooks – Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching, learning, and research resources that reside in the public domain or have been released under an intellectual property license that permits repurposing by others. On this site you’ll find openly licensed textbooks and courses written and curated by SUNY Faculty.

- Free Books 4 Doctors – FreeBooks4Doctors was created to promote the free availability of medical books on the Internet.
