Part mystery, part parody, Humbug on the Hudson is the first Harry Reese short story. In August 1900, Harry is sent upstate to Glens Falls, where he’s to help investigate a major fire. But he has a second mission: to make sure the investigation doesn’t uncover any shady doings that ‘the right people’ would prefer kept quiet. Harry encounters a variety of surprises, not the least of which involves his wife, Emmie. But that the chief arson suspect is found dead in a canal comes as no surprise at all.
